B I O G R A P H Y
Silvia Mella was born in 1988 in the small town of Vicenza, just 30 minutes outside of Venice, Italy.
Silvia's passions for fashion and art took her to Milan where she studied at IULM University, earning a degree in advertising and public relations. During her studies, Silvia interned at fashion label Blumarine and Muse Magazine. After completing her internship, Muse hired Silvia as Assistant Editor, in charge of producing new content for the publication. During her time at Muse, Silvia worked with notable creative figures like Sofia Coppola, Maurizio Cattelan, Luigi Murenu, Riccardo Tisci and Juergen Teller, forging professional relationships that proved consequential to her career in the arts.
Following a year-long sabbatical in the United States, Silvia started collaborating with Italian publishing companies like International Business Times Italy, Kult Magazine and Conde Nast Italia with whom she developed a strong professional relationship that ultimately sent her back to the United States on assignment to provide reports for Conde Nast’s online magazine Style.it on new trends, New York lifestyle, fashion, events and avant-garde topics about the Big Apple.
However, it was Silvia's aspiration to create her own brand of publication and to be able to communicate her ideas through words and image, culminating in the launch of the limited edition publication Idolize. The publication was a personal passion project launched as a new media concept that includes printed and interactive content and exhibitions featuring renowned photographers, artists and designers.
The printed edition Idolize is presented in a box containing a collection of separate posters, featuring interviews, editorials and photography by some of today's most notable figures in the arts, as well as the most intellectual creative minds and artists, like Marina Abramovic, Harold Koda, Glenn O’Brien, Ben Aranda, Matthias Vriens McGrath, Peter Weller and Orlan. Idolize published two print editions in 2013 and continues in digital format. To promote Idolize, Silvia produced and curated two exhibitions; one in Miami during Art Basel 2013, and the other in New York at Electric Lady Studios, the former recording studio of iconic musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Ron Wood and Patti Smith.
Incorporating her vast expertise in fashion, contemporary art and culture, Silvia began, among other things, creating videos, branding campaigns, social media content, lookbooks for worldwide famous fashion brands like Net-a-Porter, David Yurman, Missoni and Topshop. Silvia is also a founding committee member of Soho House and she is involved in charities like New Yorkers for Children and God's Love We Deliver.
